PET MEMORY'S

Most of us have a story to tell of a favorite pet. From being a hero, companion and best friend. May be we still have one or maybe the dearly beloved pet has deceased. They all have a special place in our hearts.

This is a story of one of my favorite cats that saved our life.
Her name was Shelly. She was gentle, sweet natured, and loveable. During the night she slept at the bottom of our bed. During cold nights she would lay on my cold feet. Shelly was an indoor or out door cat. She would only use the litter pan if we were not home. When I was home she would want me to let her out side and then cry at the door to come back in. One cold winter night I had a scented candle with about an inch of wax in the bottom, burning on top of our fire place mantle. We were watching a late show on TV and then went to bed. Later on in the night, Shelly jumped up to the bed and landed on my chest. This startled me awake. She then jumped back down off the bed and went towards the door as though she wanted to go out. I was tired and said no use your litter pan. She quickly jumped on me again and then jumped down on the floor and went to the bed room door. I got up expecting to put her out. She then led me to the living room, stood on her hind legs facing the mantle as though she was trying to look on top. I then noticed the candle I forgot to put out. The liquid wax was now on fire. It was 3:00 am and she saved our house from catching on fire by waking me up. Each night befor we went to bed from then on she would look up toward the mantle to see if the candle was out.
We no longer have our loved Shelly tortishell cat. She was the best cat we ever had. I miss her.
